Lytton, BC, 5/27/2014
Lytton, British Columbia. This town sits in a valley where the Thompson and Fraser rivers meet.
The town of Lytton is named after the novelist Edward Bulwer-Lytton, the famed writer of the novel "Paul Clifford," in which the first sentence was, "It was a dark and stormy night." This sentence became a widespread cliche for bad writing. The sentence's popularity/notoriety was widened by Snoopy in "Peanuts," and led to an annual competition (also named after Bulwer-Lytton) devoted to the crappiest possible opening sentences for a novel.
